The Triplet's Parents
by Nicole Barnhart
We...us... Together--
That's how life was
Before you met her.
But suddenly I'm jealous;
I'm sleeping as one--not two;
Sincerely missing you...
She walks by with a smug little smile
That makes me want to gag;
You and I won't speak for a while...
I feel like such a fool--then it gets bad:
I have a secret--rather, a few,
I really need you!
Suddenly, my life isn't mine,
Cannot afford to be careless,
We have to decide,
But you couldn't care less.
See, I didn't confide
That they are actually triplets.
Popping by your office
To tell you the truth,
People tried to stop us
From going to your Cube:
Your new girl walked up
And asked to take a message to you.
I smiled broadly at her,
And pulled her aside,
"Yes, we went to the doctor:
I've got THREE inside."
Then told her they were your daughters--
Her eyes went wide with surprise.
"I'll tell him,"
She swore,
"How incredibly insolent!"
She informed you of the babies I bore
And left you that moment.
I had wanted you back,
Wanted some more;
I had cut you the slack,
And thought that SHE was the whore;
But the truth lies black
And I knew what was in store.
I had my girls
Later that year--
I dress them in frills
And read to my dears:
Comb their darling curls
And kiss away their tears...
But I don't know how to tell them,
Why their Daddy isn't here.
About the Author:(In her own words) Copyright Nicole Barnhart.
I'm a teenage girl that sees things how they are, not positively or negatively, and I like to think of things we, as people, could make them better. I am very opinionated, sometimes sarcastic, but I try not to be rude. Also, I tend to take out my anger and depression in my poetry-I am not a fickle person all the time... Most of my articles are actually poems: Three of which are being published in books.
